Book Review: Reflected in You
I will start by admitting that I am a Fifty Shades of Grey addict. I read the entire trilogy more than once and I have searched far and wide for the same high I got from reading the series. Sadly, nothing has truly filled the void–insert the Crossfire trilogy.
People have compared the two trilogies, personally, I don’t see it. Both have damaged heroes that are young billionaires, but that’s about where the similarities end. The heroine in this series is just as damaged as the hero; she is rich in her own right; and far from virginal. Plus, this story takes place in my favorite city in the world, NYC.
I pretty much tore through the first book, Bared to You on a plane ride from Miami to Baltimore (with a layover in Detroit–don’t ask). So to say I was waiting with excited anticipation for the 2nd book, Reflected in You would be an understatement. Yes, I even tried to download it at midnight the day it was available (didn’t work by the way). Which brings me to my review… A review I am writing after reading the book not once, but twice, just to be certain I disliked it as much as I thought I did–I did.
The book was too short for what it was trying to accomplish. The first one being almost 100 pages longer. The heroine was so whiny, insecure, and desperate in this book that she was pathetic and garnered no sympathy–especially during the limo scene. Seriously, her running from the relationship was mildly irritating in the first book but I would’ve welcomed it in place of her constant need for reassurance in this one–like every other page. Plus, in this book, the author kept reiterating things that had happened in the prior book. I guess this was in case you didn’t read the first book. FYI, this is a trilogy…where one picks up literally where the last one ends…we don’t need the explanations and constant rehash! And the ending of this one… How incredibly disappointing what she did to the hero. I am far from a goody goody (as evidenced by my reading selections), but what a let down. (Is it possible to lose respect for the main character of a fictional book???)
Needless to say, I will read the third book, Entwined With You when it comes out on New Year’s Eve, simply to see how it all wraps up. Ever since the Fifty series I have been hooked on romance novels. And any of my friends will tell you that mysteries and suspense novels were once almost the only thing that caught my attention (ok, and occasional chick lit with a Nora Roberts story thrown in once in a blue moon).
But, for now, I will continue to search high and low for the next Fifty series, as if anything could compare. I’m totally open to suggestions???
