4th of july cocktail hack

For many of us, we are heading into a long weekend with cook outs and hopefully, time spent with family–from a safely masked distance. As we prepare for food, fireworks, and (possibly) friends–here’s a quick cocktail hack to help save time and keep you focused on the quality time amongst your loved ones. (Or, a quick cocktail to sip as you indulge in some weekend reads.) Ingredients – Individual bottle of your favorite white wine –I tried Riesling and Moscato and found that I enjoyed the Moscato a bit more – Simple syrup –1/2 c sugar –1/2 c water – Club soda – Ice – Sugar for the rim of the glass – Strawberries – Blueberries – Mint for garnish Directions Combine…

Recipe Roundup: Cream Cheese Hershey Bar Cookies

I saw this recipe about a month or so ago on Pinterest and have been meaning to make these cookies for about 2 weeks now. But then life happened… Tonight, after working late and realizing that I needed a recipe for Thursday, I flew into action and hoped for the best. Thankfully, the baking gods were on my side and these turned out yummy.  They’re lighter than a chocolate chip cookie, but similar in texture,...

Book Review: The Professional

I have been obsessed with the mob for as long as I can remember. I can recite every line from The Godfather from start to finish. Goodfellas, Casino, you name it–I love it. (I know, the brutality of such movies is in stark contrast to the happily ever after romance novels I usually review here…I’m just full of contradictions…) That’s why when I heard about The Professional, I got very excited and for...

Book Review: Poughkeepsie

Welcome to my 1st book review of 2014! Things are rolling! Let’s dive right in… My 1st review of the new year is Poughkeepsie, by Debra Anastasia. It’s one of those books I keep coming across on my Nook, iBooks, Goodreads… Since it’s been stalking me for a while, I thought I’d go ahead and read it. I’ll be honest, I have mixed feelings. The basis of the book was a good one but...

Saturday Surprise: Give Hope–Give a Hand

I thought I’d mix things up a bit by not posting a recipe or a book review, but something a bit different. This is the ‘Saturday Surprise’ edition of tlfinney.com.  I’m not saying I won’t post a recipe or book review in the future, but if I told you–you know, it wouldn’t be a surprise. (wink, wink) Thursday, my department had a quarterly, half-day, offsite-meeting. We received an update on our business. Information on...

Recipe Review: Chocolate Peanut Butter Surprise Cookies

Happy New Year!!! I know, it’s been a while. Holidays… Travel… Illness… It all takes time. But I’m back! So let’s kick off the new year with a sweet treat! First off, a confession: I have a  weakness, ok I have many–one of which is peanut butter. I think if you put peanut butter on a rock I’d eat it; that’s how deep my love goes. (And for the record, Sarge–my dog–feels the same.)...
